Cuttack: Athagarh Suraksha Manch observed a 12 o’clock bandh in Athagarh to protest the proposed merger of 71 villages in the bloc with CDA.

According to reports, shops and markets are closed, while vehicle traffic remains disrupted.

Police forces were reportedly deployed in the area to maintain public order.

With the expansion of the city of Cuttack on all its periphery, the Cuttack Development Authority (CDA) will extend its jurisdiction by soon including 145 income villages.

The Department of Housing and Urban Development has solicited any objections or suggestions to the proposal to bring villages in seven blocks of the district under the CDA within 30 days from the date of publication of the notice. The notification was already published on March 31.

According to the proposal released by the H&UD department, up to 71 villages in Tangi-Choudwar and Athagarh block, 58 villages in Cuttack Sadar and Baranga block, 9 villages in Salepur block, 4 villages in Kantapada block and 3 villages in Banki block will be included in the CDA area.
