The Union Minister met the recently elected delegations of PRI members who informed the Minister of their active participation in the planning and execution process.

The Union Minister also inspected the stalls set up by various departments, including livestock, district industries, ICDS, social welfare, horticulture, sheep farming, looms and crafts during this visit.

Central Commissioner for Crafts Development Shantmanu, Principal Secretary of Industries and Trade Ranjan P Thakur, Secretary to Commissioner FCS & CA Zubair Ahmed, Chairman of DDC Anantnag, DC Anantnag and other officials from the district were present on occasion.

Shri Piyush Goyal interacted with various officials at the booths and presented a brief description of various products. He also inquired about the manufacture of these products.

He placed particular emphasis on promoting products that can increase UT’s export potential. He asked the district administration to provide all possible help to local entrepreneurs and artisans to increase productivity.

The Minister also distributed baby kits among newborns under the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao program. Grants were also distributed among the beneficiaries under the Ladlibeti program. He distributed letters of acceptance for the purchase of milk trucks to beneficiaries. Tricycles were also distributed to people with disabilities through the Department of Social Welfare.

Appreciating the district administration’s efforts in starting up the Panchayati Raj institutions, Shri Goel ensured the prompt redress of all complaints filed with the Panchayati Raj institutions.

He asked the district administration to plan homestay tourism in Pahalgam, which would boost the local economy and improve the tourism potential of Pahalgam. He highlighted the role of Panchayati Raj institutions as representatives of the people and in bringing complaints from the general public to the district administration.

Shri Piyush Goyal also met a delegation of industrialists from the Valley. The industrialists informed the minister of the local problems facing the industry.

There was an in-depth discussion on the constraints in the export of Kashmir shawls and the need for new industrial packaging and the extension of packaging to existing industrial units to ensure their growth.

The minister assured the delegation of all possible help from the central government to promote local industries. Taking immediate steps to remove bottlenecks in the export of shawls, authorities have called on officials to set up testing facilities at Srinagar and Delhi airports as well as modernize facilities at local testing with state-of-the-art machines.

He also proposed the creation of a carpet village which would serve as a showcase center for local crafts for passing tourists and promote the local carpet industry on a global scale.
He insisted on the fact that local industry players must play on their strengths and set up units where UT has a comparative advantage to ensure the sustainability of the industries being established.

The Minister is on a two-day visit and will inaugurate various development works.
