US pharmaceutical major Pfizer and Johnson & Johnson (J&J) have yet to apply for an emergency use authorization or EUA for their Covid vaccines in India, according to a report by the ANI news agency. Earlier last week, the Union government said it was in discussions with Covid vaccine producers Pfizer and Moderna on a number of issues, including the waiver of the indemnity.
The member of NITI Aayog for Health, Dr VK Paul had informed that they are in contact with these two companies by holding discussions and are in the process of negotiation and dialogues. He said they were trying to find a solution to the issues related to contractual issues and commitments and added that the process is ongoing.
In June, U.S. biotechnology major Moderna said India had authorized the import of the company’s Covid vaccines for limited use in an emergency. Also, Albert Bourla, the CEO of Pfizer had informed that he was in the final phase of obtaining the approval of the Covid vaccine in the country. NITI Aayog’s Dr Paul had said he would soon complete the deal with Pfizer.
