MOSCOW – Russia reported 9,163 new cases of coronavirus on Sunday, including 2,936 in Moscow, bringing the national number of cases to 5,126,437.
The Russian Coronavirus Task Force said it had confirmed 351 deaths of coronavirus patients in the past 24 hours, bringing the official case total to 123,787.
Rosstat, the Russian state statistical service, maintains its own records and said on Friday that around 270,000 people had died in Russia from COVID-19 and related causes in April.
The excess death toll in Russia, which some epidemiologists say is the best way to measure the actual death toll from COVID-19, reached nearly 425,000 from April 2020 to April 2021, according to data from Rosstat .
